I started to realize how much I liked the bubbles when I started adding Bubly to my pre-mixed (too sweet) margaritas. Then, I wanted the bubbles everywhere, including in the iced tea I drink every day.As far as I'm concerned, this is the only carbonator worth buying, because with a Soda Stream, you can only carbonate water. And DrinkMate does works great; I'm very happy with it.The reason for only a 4 star review is that it's a nasty, cheap-ass tactic to sell a carbonator with only a tiny CO2 cartridge. This will last you no more than 2 days, because when you first get one of these, you want to experiment, a lot. This should have shipped with 1 full-sized cartridge.DO NOT BUY THIS unless you also order a set of full-sized cannisters, and wait until you have them to start using it. Otherwise, just skip this one and buy B07VXK5FPD, the one which comes with 2 full sized cannisters at the outset. One other tip I highly recommend is watching their YouTube video before using the first time. The instructions are good but if you've never used one of these appliances and don't really know what you're doing, the video is just SO much better.I love my Drinkmate. I've had it now for several months and couldn't be happier. So simple and quick to use, and ultimately, a $$$ saver on soda. I bought a 5 lb refillable tank and mounted it in a cabinet. Should last a long time. Definitely would recommend buying additional bottles to keep cold in the fridge so you don't have to wait. I'm a Happy Drinker...I got this unit after suffering with its competitor, and the difference is night and day. Water no longer floods the countertop, and I don't need to use half a bottle of CO2 to get some fizz. DrinkMate is easy to use, and the venting system lets me know when the beverage is ready. I can use DrinkMate to reinvigorate beer and to carbonate water, with a touch of citrus. Moreover, as carbonated water prices in the store rise into the stratosphere, I save money while I enjoy a healthy drink after working outside all day. DrinkMate is easy to use, well designed, economical and looks good sitting on the counter.Positives - It can carbonate to a higher level than commercial Club Soda, though it takes some tinkering to learn how (incl. first getting the water very cold). Also appreciated: no wires, no batteries and a very small countertop footprint. It's a keeper.Negatives - The promised volume of liquid carbonated per each CO2 canister can be misleading, bc you can carbonate to different levels, and I suspect the promised volume is for very light carbonation. At full carbonation, you will run out of CO2 faster. The small can that shipped with the unit only did two or three bottles' worth, though of course I probably wasted some just learning how to use it. Also, removing the injection head from the unit is not intuitive. I had to learn from YouTube to swing it out towards you first before removing it. If I hadn't found that info, I might have broken the unit.Got this for a gift at Christmas, so it's about six months in. We still use it regularly. In my mind three key things to know:1) The best part is being able to fizz any liquid, not just water.I wondered how this worked but it's pretty simple. The attachment that carbonates it dismounts with the bottle rather than being stuck with the sodamaker. This means you can vent it and rinse/clean the attachment it if there's any mess, then put it back with the machine. Soda Streams don't have the removable attachment, so you risk the liquid going all over the place during venting. That's why the limit it to water. So, you can carbonate lemonade, OJ, already-mixed soda, whatever. It's awesome for that, and here's another reason why it's extra awesome - you can recarbonate that flat soda or sparking water in the fridge. We would always have a 2-liter that got flat before we drank it all. Now it doesn't go to waste. That's a money saver right there.2) You gotta do the paintball gun tanks with the nozzle attachmentThese things have a proprietary nozzle - works with Soda stream bottles - which is how they get you hooked into their bottle system for big bucks. Just get one of the nozzle adapters so you can use paintball cannisters, and then fill them up at your local sporting store / paintball store, wherever. You gotta look around but there's probably someone near you. I found one that fills 'em up for $4 a piece, and I got two cannisters. We use it roughly 5-10x per week and a cannister easily lasts a month, if not more. It's pretty easy, although there is always the risk of leaky or broken cannisters. Don't get discouraged if you get a dud at first, get a new cannister and it'll work out. If you don't do this, you are NOT saving money with this thing. And don't freak out about food-grade CO2 or some other such thing. Just buy a paintball cannister that is specifically advertised for this use, i.e., cleaned inside before you buy it. The CO2 you put in it will be clean in and of itself as long as the tank is. Oh, and there's a ton of nozzle adapters out there. I bought a stainless , non-adjustable version for around $20. Not saying you'll go wrong with the brass ones, but if it's $5, the thing is made in China and it may or may not be good quality. Caveat emptor.3) Be patient finding flavor mixesI did so much research trying to find cheap flavor mixes that would end up saving lots of money over store-bought soda. There is no magic bullet on this one. There are some that are cheaper than others, and it's all preference, so plan to experiment. Again, the way we saved the most money was by reducing the amount of waste on soda and sparkling water we already bought by recarbonating it, and there are a few mixes we prefer. If you just like having control over your drink flavors, you'll enjoy this thing. If you want to save money, this can do it too. We went from spending >$15 a week on soda and sparking water (half my family won't drink just tap water, go figure) to <$5, what we re-carbonating and making a few mixes of our own. And if you like the environmental and storage aspect, this is also for you. We have so many fewer bottles to recycle.Either way, it takes a little effort to find your groove with it, but once you do, it's a great thing to have. Highly recommended.I love this carbonator. I bought it 5 years ago, and I have not yet had to replace the infuser part. I mostly carbonate plain water, but I've also used it on special occasions for flavored water. The one thing, and the reason why I'm knocking off a star, is that the white plastic has yellowed over time. I'm pretty sure this happened because it was on a kitchen window sill, exposed to a lot of sunlight. I'm not sure this would have occurred otherwise. I wish I had bought the black version!Don't try to carbonate almond milk, results are messy.Other advice; I suggest adding sweetener or flavoring after carbonating and not beforehand. It comes with one water bottle but having extras has been good for a multi-person household. The Co2 bottle it comes with is tiny and will run out quickly. I have checked all the youtube videos on how to use this machine, read and re read the user manual, but the bubbles don't last long, like 2 minutes after using the machine, the drink is flat flat. All reviews say it's an awesome machine, so what am I doing wrong? Thank you.You can use the co2 soda stream bottles on it, canadian tire and some groceries store sell them.Easy to use and easy to clean. I’ve used it to make everything from plain soda water to cocktails. Carbonating pure fruit juices makes a refreshing soda that is much healthier than store bought sodas. If you prefer flavored water your able to mix juice with water to make a drink of any strength to fit your taste. You’re able to use co2 bottles from any manufacturer so you can find them anywhere you live. The one small negative is that the only place to buy extra plastic bottles is on line. You can adjust the amount of carbonation by the amount of times you press the button that releases the co2. All said I’m pleased with my purchase.I have purchased this a month ago as a gift to my husband, and so far, we're very happy with it. White wine + carbonation makes amazing sparkling wine! We have tried orange juice and cranberry juice as well which turned out delicious (I can no longer drink flat orange juice), and of course, water. My husband used to drink a ton of Perrier water and he likes this just as much! I do feel like the plastic button for carbonation, which is located on top, might break eventually (perhaps we're pushing too hard on it), but the rest of the build feels solid. The cap provided for the bottle is tight; carbonated water stays carbonated for a while in the fridge.
